Every business needs a mobile application, but creating only an Android app or only an iOS app is no longer good enough. The problem is that both mobile platforms rely on two different programming languages which can be expensive or take a long time to learn.

In this workshop we'll learn about what NativeScript brings to the table versus competing technologies and how you can use it to develop stunning mobile applications that are not only completely native, but use modern technologies like Angular 2 and TypeScript.

Some material to be covered in this workshop:

  • Creating visually pleasing UIs with XML and CSS
  • Routing and navigation between application screens
  • Data consumption from remote web services
  • Data persistence with a NoSQL database
  • Data binding

This is a hands on workshop. Key take aways will be how to develop with Angular 2 and use that knowledge to develop native mobile applications with NativeScript. We won't be developing applications that look and feel like native, we'll be developing applications that are native.

Prerequisites

  • Android Studio or Xcode installed and configured
  • A functioning Android or iOS emulator
  • Node.js 4.0 or higher installed
  • At least a basic understanding of JavaScript
